"In rural Africa, many families still light their homes with kerosene or candles, as their kitchens fill up with smoke from open fires. No power means no lights or computers in schools; no life-saving equipment or refrigerators for medicines in health clinics. Businesses cannot operate at full capacity and crops fail when there is a drought. These challenges have a profound impact on the lives and livelihoods of rural populations, limiting opportunities and trapping people in a cycle of poverty. One of the major problem we working hard to solve is Cataracts ravaging through the village populations."
Cataract eye challenge is a public health concern worldwide that mainly affects rural residents owing to the use of fossil fuels for lighting. In this initiative we saw an opportunity to contribute towards two SDGs whilst solving two existing problems in the local community. Our approach was to find the root problem of the health challenge fossil fuels caused but also educate the community on the importance of using clean energy and its impact to climate action. Through this initiative, communities could enjoy reliable access to affordable energy through using solar, a solution to reduced cataract eye problem but also with the use of green energy positively contribute to supporting action towards the climate crisis. This initiative has so far reached.
